Fifth Generation

HUBERT HENRY
21 May 1881 - December 1944

Eldest son of Henry John and Frances Edwards.
Married Julia Loxton - 14.11.1877 - 04 .01.1958 at Lymington.

Two children
Evelyn Dorothy - 19 July 1919 - 19.02.2012
Audrey Marie - 13 May 1911 - December 1969

Hubert did not join in the family business but became a chief engineer on the P & O Line.

NEW DETAILS 2018:
During WW1 Hubert was an Engineer Lieutenant rising to Engineer Lieutenant Commander and by the end of his career in 1941. During WW2 he was a Commander (Engineering) in the Royal Naval Reserve.
He served on various ships throughout his career both in peace and wartime. Documents revealed that during WW1 the ships and dates were as follows: HMS Mantua (04/08/14-20/06/16), HMS Moldavia (21/06/16-11/09/17) and HMS Macedonia (11/09/17-27/12/18). From what my mum told me, merchant ships were reinforced during the wars and became what were called armed merchant cruisers, but they were not really properly equipped for combat situations and so were quite vulnerable to attack.

His job with Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company took him away for months at a time mainly to the Far East.

Many thanks to his Granddaughter, Julia Molden for the latest information.
